Melbourne Taxi Driver Extraordinare Solomon

Hi everyone.. Michaelle from Dare to Succeed here:

This is a strange email.. but I want to provide you with the BEST MELBOURNE

Taxi driver I have ever encountered. Because of his wonderful attitude, his politeness promptness etc I’d be delighted to recommend Solomon to anyone needing a cab in Melbourne.

I’d just like to provide you with my encounter so that you can understand why I think he went the extra mile for me.

Solomon at random was the cab I caught from the airport to the Mantra Hotel. On arrival I asked him to wait a few minutes while I dropped my bags at reception and to continue with another bag to the venue for Meeting Mart. He was of course happy to do this, but more importantly he turned the meter off while he waited.

Because of his kind gesture, I asked if he was interested in picking me up at about 9.45 – 10.00 on the Friday of that week to take me to an appointment at Camberwell which was at 11am and then to pick me up at 1pm to go directly to the airport. Just before 9.45 Solomon arrived and delivered me to Camberwell. At 12.40 he was waiting out the front for my departure to the airport.

He was always so polite and warm and friendly and so we chatted. I asked if he had many fares while waiting for me, and he said he sat by the Primary School nearby and had lunch, because he promised me 1pm and didn’t want to take a fare that may make him late for the committed time to me.

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m blown away by the wonderful service, that fair deal practice (turning off the metre while waiting) and his promptness to time and his can do attitude.

In our industry, we value those who provide true hospitality, so I guess I’d hope that Solomon gets to be the busiest cab in Melbourne, that he can reap some of the fruits of his ‘go the extra mile’ attitude and his warm friendly honesty. So if you or anyone you know needs a cab...in MELBOURNE

The phone rings and the lady of the house answers, 'Hello.'
'Mrs. Smith, please.'
'Speaking.'

'Mrs. Smith, this is Doctor Jones at Saint Agnes Laboratory. When your doctor sent your husband's biopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Smith arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's. Frankly the results are either bad or terrible.'

'What do you mean?' Mrs. Smith asks nervously.

'Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's and the other one tested positive for AIDS. We can't tell which is your husband's.'

'That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?' questioned Mrs. Smith.

'Normally we can, but Medicare will only pay once for these expensive tests'

'Well, what am I supposed to do now?'

'The people at Medicare recommend that you drop your husband off somewhere in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him.'

Failure according to Churchill

British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who flunked sixth grade, suffered a string of catastrophic defeats against the Nazis and was booted out of office after the war, yet is still considered his country’s greatest wartime leader.

He summed up his philosophy like this:

“Success is the ability to go from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”

John Carlton is one of the World's best copy writers and he often produces great insights. He has recently written for Early to Rise about communication skills. He says:

"One of the fundamentals of becoming a great communicator is best explained in the classic book How to Win Friends and Influence People.

The most important skill in that book is listening... and then rephrasing what you just heard back to the other guy.

This proves that you listened... and processed what you heard. And it will astonish anyone you do it with... because nobody else is listening at all. They're just waiting impatiently until they can interrupt to stress their point, regardless of what the other guy has said."

It may seem obvious, but one fact bears repeating: Expensive doesn't necessarily mean "best," and cheap doesn't necessarily mean "worst." In fact, there is often little or no difference between best and worst... other than a name and fancy packaging.

A test of facial cleansers conducted by Consumer Reports demonstrated this once again. The top two winners had nearly identical scores - but one (La Prairie) costs $70 and the other one (Estee Lauder) costs only $19.

Actually, all the cleansers tested were rated as very good or excellent, except two. Both were big brand-name busts: Biore's daily cleansing cloths and Pond's cold cream.

Useless Locks on 24 Hour Stores??

Have you noticed that the doors at 24 hour a day convenience stores have locks on their doors... and the reason is pretty logical.

Because doors are mass produced they come with locks and it is cheaper to leave them in the doors than to remove them.

Logical when you think about it... isn't it.

A recent management study revealed that 46% of employees leaving a company do so because they feel unappreciated; 61% said their bosses don't place much importance on them as people; and 88% said they don't receive acknowledgement for the work they do.

Whether you are an entrepreneur, manager, teacher, parent, coach or simply a friend, if you want to be successful with other people, you must master the art of appreciation.

Keyword Magic for Blogs

Sunday, September 14, 2008

Great content depends on understanding the keywords that drive your business.

What’s great is that keyword research is relatively easy. Depending on your blogging software provider, they will provide this as a service for you. Other options include a little research using other service providers, various online tools and even your own weblogs. What terms are people entering today that leads to you?

You can even do research on your competitors and see what keywords drive their traffic. It’s all part of the magic of online marketing…there is very little ambiguity about anything and most data is available to anyone.

Leslie Feist was one of our favorite indie musicians in 2007. For those of you who've been out of the loop, indie songs are supposed to be approximately 50% cool and 50% catchy. That is the balance Apple was looking for when they enlisted "1, 2, 3, 4" to help hawk their new iPod line. Unfortunately, this tune ended up being too catchy, and then, painfully annoying.

Now, Feist's microscopic-yet-highly-choreographed prance in tight Canadian spandex is the lone redeeming value to these commercials.

Cash Flow Is King

Saturday, March 15, 2008
Cash flow provides the necessary fuel to propel your small business forward. Cash flow problems can lead to an insolvent business structure and are a leading indicator of a failing business. Here are Here are 4 of common causes of cash flow problems in small business and solutions to help you avoid them:

Lack of Payment Term Discounts - Waiting for a customer to pay once you have delivered a product or completed a service can cost your business valuable money. Offer your customers a term discount such as 2% net 10, or 1% net 5 in order to encourage them to make their payments quicker to receive a discount.

Lack of Tracking - Tracking your business results is crucial to its overall success. Install tracking systems in the areas of your business where you can improve cash flow such as inventory management, supply ordering and procurement to reduce waste and improve turn around times.

Failure to Perform New Client Credit Checks - Ensure that your new clients have credit checks before your business ships out product to avoid an untimely payment or a payment default from a business with a poor credit history.

Lack of Credit Insurance - Failure to have credit insurance, especially when working with customers internationally, can cause the business to lose substantial cash flow if the customer is slow to pay or defaults. International customers are also more challenging to take financial action against.

These interesting observations came from David Craker:

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.

(Hardly seems worth it)

If you fart consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.

(Now that's more like it)

"Explain to me why residences for senior citizens permit and encourage pets and children to visit and why Aunt Mildred eats and sleeps better following that episode of touch.

While you're explaining, explain personalized license plates, pet rocks, messages on T-shirts and car bumpers, humaninterest, talk shows on TV, potted plants, and monogrammed memo pads in work areas.

Is it obvious to you, too?

We insist on being individuals, on being human, and I applaud. Now, if we can educate management on this phenomenon, we can make the work unit more productive, more motivated, and more fun. This transition statement is very important. "

Head Too Big for Your Body?

Dean Hrbacek, the former mayor of Sugar Land, Texas, and now running for the U.S. House of Representatives, mailed a campaign brochure to voters.

Those who looked closely could see that in the photo of the candidate, his head didn't quite fit on the body, which is noticeably slimmer than Hrbacek's. Campaign officials admitted the Republican's photo was faked -- they had a nice head shot of Hrbacek, but not a full-length photo needed for the brochure, so they asted his head on someone else's body.

Voters are well used to politicians who don't have their heads on straight.

The Minister and the Funeral
bookmark this at :: del.icio.us :: Digg it

As a young minister, I was asked by a funeral director to hold a graveside service for a homeless man, with no family or friends. The funeral was to be held at a cemetery way back in the country, and this man would be the first to be laid to rest there.

As I was not familiar with the backwoods area, I became lost; and being a typical man did not stop for directions. I finally arrived an hour late. I saw the backhoe and the crew, who was eating lunch, but the hearse was nowhere in sight.

I apologized to the workers for my tardiness, and stepped to the side of the open grave, where I saw the vault lid already in place. I assured the workers I would not hold them up for long, but this was the proper thing to do. The workers gathered around, still eating their lunch. I poured out my heart and soul.

As I preached the workers began to say "Amen", "Praise the Lord", and "Glory"! I preached and preached, like I'd never preached before: from Genesis all the way to Revelations.

I closed the lengthy service with a prayer and walked to my car.

As I was opening the door and taking off my coat, I overheard one of the workers saying to another, "I ain't never seen anything like that before and I've been putting in septic tanks for 20 years."
